At Chesterton we are committed to ensuring all pupils, staff and stakeholders are treated equally.

How we will achieve this ethos

  • Shared voice and language
  • Weekly assemblies
  • Half termly lessons - linked to literature
  • Displays
  • Praise and sanction
  • All stakeholders buying into this
  • High profile

Why is this ethos so important?

Our children leave us destined for the workplace, for a role in modern Britain. We want our children to champion inclusion and celebrate diversity. To feel that they never are an outsider and to welcome all that they meet. We believe that no one is born to hate - it is learnt - we need to teach another lesson to spread love and show love.

Chesterton Primary School endeavours to improve the lives of children, young people and families. We accept and celebrate the rich diversity in our world and we respect each other’s race, religion, gender identity, age, disabilities, sexual orientation and gender. We celebrate all of our children and their families without discrimination. In doing so we believe that our community will be happier and more successful.

The public sector equality act duty came into force across Great Britain on April 2011 - it means that public bodies have to consider all individuals when carrying out their day to day work - in shaping policy, in delivering services and in relation to their own employees.

  • Due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination
  • Advance equality of opportunity
  • Foster good relations between different people

Chesterton Primary School and The Active Learning Trust are an equal opportunities employer.

Our school's equality and diversity objective for 2024/2025 is:

Our objective for 24/25 is: To ensure all staff are aware of their duties under the Equality Act 2011 and are aware of how to report any discriminatory incidents or practices.

We have chosen this objective:

  • To ensure our staff understand their duties in relation to good equality practices and they are able to confidently report discriminatory incidents and practices.

We plan to achieve this objective by:

  • Using staff meeting time to ensure staff are clear of their duties.
  • To be committed to ensuring all pupils and staff are treated equally.
  • To embed our curriculum to provide pupils and staff with the knowledge and skills they need to champion inclusion and diversity.
