SEND at Chesterton Primary School
Throughout our school we pride ourselves on being an inclusive provision. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum for all children and recognise that adjustments to practice and specific support may be necessary to meet individual needs. We aim to create a learning environment which meets the needs of each child and our school team works to ensure that special educational needs are identified, assessed and appropriately met, enabling all children to have full access to all elements of our school curriculum.
We believe in working collaboratively to ensure every learner achieves their full potential and ensure that individual success is celebrated. The staff, governors, children and their families are committed to work together to create an inclusive environment where children can learn as individuals and develop their confidence and independence skills. We celebrate the differences between children and ensure that learning experiences and opportunities meet the needs of all.

Meet the Team - Key Roles and Responsibilities
As outlined in the SEND Code of Practice 2015, every teacher is a teacher of SEN. Class teachers, supported by the senior leadership team, should make regular assessments of progress for all pupils and ensure that the appropriate support is in place for pupils.

The SENCO has day-to-day responsibility for the operation of SEND policy and co-ordination of specific provision made to support individual pupils with SEND, including those who have EHC plans.

The staff at Chesterton are committed to providing an accessible learning environment that supports the needs of our children. Inclusion is central to our ethos and we recongise that for pupils with SEND, they may need additional support in one or more of the following areas:
- Communication and Interaction (C&I)
- Cognition and Learning (C&L)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
- Sensory and/or physical needs

Sensory Room
At Chesterton, we are very fortunate to have our own sensory room. Inside the room, there are vibration pads, different coloured lights and objects to touch and feel. The room is designed to help individuals engage their senses.

Cambridgeshire Local Offer
All local authorities working with their partners must publish information about how children and young people 0 - 25 who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported in their area. This is known as the local offer. The local offer includes information on:
- universal services that are available to everyone, such as schools, GPs, (universal services)
- targeted support and services for children and young people who may need some additional, short term support
- specialist services for children and young people who have complex needs and need longer term specialised support
