The children in Year 5 are taught by Miss Povey. Miss Matraka supports the children with their learning.
Our year 5 class is a caring and fun environment. It is filled with lively and friendly children who love to help their peers and teachers, and enjoy discovering new facts and sharing these in class. In Year 5, we have high expectations in all areas of our learning so that every child can achieve their full potential. Although we work really hard, we still make time to enjoy each other’s’ company and we spend a lot of time laughing too!
The learning in our classroom varies day to day, but a typical lesson would include group and peer discussions, followed by individual focused learning tasks with some challenges thrown in too! We learn new skills and how to apply them alongside our knowledge. Our English and reading texts link with our topic work in order to enhance and deepen the children’s learning and understanding throughout the curriculum.
During the year, our learning will focus on sustainable development and building sustainable communities. We will study the Anglo-Saxon period as well as the Vikings in our history lessons, and will learn about water accessibility in developing countries during our geography lessons. In our science work, we will be investigating pH levels in different liquids, as well as forces. We will also learn about healthy relationships during PHSE, and Buddhism and Christianity during our RE lessons. Our sketching and collage skills will be developed during art.
